THE EARL AND COUNTESS OF WESSEX RECEIVE CENTENNIAL MEDAL

The Saskatchewan Centennial Medal was presented to The Earl and Countess of Wessex in Toronto today.

The commemorative medal recognizes and honours the important role individuals have played in the development of the province. Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex is the youngest son of The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. He has visited Saskatchewan three times. He is patron of the Globe Theatre in Regina and Colonel-in-Chief of the Saskatchewan Dragoons in Moose Jaw. He has also been appointed an honorary member of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.

"I am delighted that Their Royal Highnesses have accepted this honour from Saskatchewan," Lieutenant Governor Lynda Haverstock said. "Members of the Royal Family play a vital role in Canada. They are hardworking and dedicated individuals."

The Saskatchewan Centennial Medal was also presented to The Duke of Edinburgh during the royal visit to Saskatchewan May 17th-20th. Approximately 4,000 Saskatchewan Centennial Medals will be presented at ceremonies held throughout the province this year.
