Saskatchewan residents and others have until July 11th to nominate individuals for the province's highest honour, the Saskatchewan Order of Merit.The Order of Merit recognizes individuals whose outstanding achievements have contributed significantly to the well-being of the province and its residents.
"Nominating someone for the Saskatchewan Order of Merit is a way to honour the commitment and spirit of the many committed and talented individuals in this province," Provincial Secretary Joan Beatty said.
Saskatchewan residents, or former residents, are eligible for nomination, with the exception of current elected members of the Legislature or Parliament, and judges currently holding office. Only individuals are eligible for appointment to the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. Groups or organizations cannot be nominated.
Posthumous nominations are accepted within one year of the date of the person's death.
Among the fields of endeavour recognized by this honour are: agriculture; business and industry; education and research; literary; visual and performing arts; occupational and professional achievement; and public and community service.

Since its inception in 1985, 122 citizens have received the Saskatchewan Order of Merit. Earlier this month, The Earl of Wessex (Prince Edward) was named a honourary member of the Order. The Prince of Wales was made the first honourary member in 2001.
