NEW CHAIRPERSON APPOINTED TO CARLTON TRAIL REGIONAL COLLEGE

Learning Minister Andrew Thomson has appointed Wayne Busch as the new chairperson of the Carlton Trail Regional College Board.

Board chairpersons of regional colleges, along with board members, serve as stewards of their college with statutory authority and obligation to guide the affairs of the college. They set the strategic direction in response to the needs of the geographical region represented. Board chairs meet with the Minister to share and discuss such issues as strategic planning, policies and government direction.

"I am pleased that Wayne Busch has accepted the role of chairperson for the Carlton Trail Regional College," Thomson said. "His strong educational and public administrative background and his long-standing record of community service at the national, provincial and municipal levels make him a welcome addition to the board. His extensive experience will help ensure the well-being of post-secondary education and training in central Saskatchewan.

"I also wish to thank Daryl Gebauer, previous chairperson of the Carlton Trail Regional College Board, for the guidance he has provided to the college and for his leadership as president of the Association of Saskatchewan Regional Colleges," Thomson added.

Regional colleges have been the province's primary means of responding to the post-secondary education and training needs of residents in rural and northern Saskatchewan for more than 30 years. There are eight regional colleges operating in approximately 40 locations throughout the province. A comprehensive array of credit courses and programs from the province's two universities and SIAST as well as basic education and a variety of non-credit courses are offered through the regional college network.

"This appointment takes me back to my educational roots," Busch said. "Having served in various leadership capacities in other areas of public interest, from health care to highways, I welcome the return to education. I look forward to helping our province respond to the needs of rural Saskatchewan and prepare for the future."
