NEW MEMBERS APPOINTED TO THE SAMA BOARD

Released on April 14, 2005

New members have been appointed to the board of the Saskatchewan Assessment Management Agency (SAMA). SAMA is the agency responsible for the province-wide assessment system and the provision of assessment services to most municipalities.

"The SAMA board has an important role in the assessment system in Saskatchewan," Government Relations Minister Len Taylor said. "The expansion of the board to 11 members provides for more representation from the education sector and enables the province to include a representative from other sectors like business. I congratulate each of the members on their appointment."

The names of the six members representing urban municipalities, rural municipalities and the boards of education were advanced by the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA), the Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) and the Saskatchewan School Boards Association (SSBA).

The SAMA Board of Directors, including newly appointed and reappointed members, is now comprised of:

- Craig Melvin, Regina, Chairperson

- Darryl Senecal, Rosetown (SARM)

- John Wagner, Maple Creek (SARM)

- Sharon Armstrong, Wynyard (SUMA)

- Fred Clipsham, Regina (SUMA)

- Dan Danielson, Saskatoon (SSBA)

- Richard Douglas, Eatonia (SSBA)

- Ron Thomas, Regina (member at large)

- Rick Brundson, Saskatoon (member at large)

- Art Scherr, Yorkton (member at large)

- Robert Shultz, Lashburn (member at large)

In the fall of 2004, the number and composition of the SAMA board was changed. A second representative for boards of education and two more members selected by the provincial government were added. Local government representatives are now selected through nomination by their respective associations rather than by election at the SAMA annual meeting.
