"With this announcement we are moving forward with another commitment

look forward to working with the new board to make the changes needed to

strengthen and sustain our health care system for the future."

"As well, I sincerely thank members of the outgoing district health boards

for their commitment over the years to improving the health of people in

their areas. I also commend them for demonstrating such a high level of co-

operation as we work to establish RHAs. I am confident we will continue to

see a very smooth transition."

Government will introduce legislation this spring that will replace the

current 32 health districts with 12 Regional Health Authorities to improve

province-wide health system planning and co-ordination. Future RHA board

members will sit on planning committees during the transition to the new

regions.

All regions will maintain close ties with residents by creating Community

Advisory Networks to ensure local involvement in board decisions.
