The City of Regina will receive $75,000 from the provincial Centenary Fund
toward the construction of new gateway and tourist signs to welcome people
to Saskatchewan's capital.
"The province is pleased to partner with the City of Regina on this
initiative," Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister Ron Osika said. "These
new signs will be a pleasant and informative welcome to visitors entering
our capital city."
"We're proud of our city and want to provide a good first impression to
travelers visiting Regina," Mayor Fiacco said. "The participation of the
province and our tourism partners will result in improved visitor and
tourist signs at city entrances and throughout the community."
Municipal infrastructure projects under the Centenary Fund are cost shared
by the province and successful applicants. The City of Regina and its
tourism partners will match provincial funding for the new signs.
The Centenary Fund was established to leave a legacy of Saskatchewan's
centennial for future generations. Leading up to the centennial
celebrations in 2005, the government is funding projects that are of
provincial or regional interest and will develop municipal infrastructure.
