SCN BROADCASTS MEDICARE CONSULTATIONS

The Saskatchewan Communications Network (SCN) will transmit the province-wide

forums on Medicare to 32 communities across the province via satellite

conferencing on October 28th and November 4th.



The forums will be broadcast from Saskatoon. They will focus on finding

solutions to the challenges facing health care as outlined in the Commission on

Medicare's discussion paper, Caring for Medicare: The Challenges Ahead.



October 28th will feature discussions between Commissioner Ken Fyke and

frontline health care workers and managers. An opportunity for discussion with

a cross section of citizens from across the province will take place on

November 4th.



"With consultations as momentous as these, it is vital every region of the

province have access," Minister responsible for SCN Glenn Hagel said. "Having

the event available through satellite conferencing will allow people in

communities throughout Saskatchewan to have input in this important process."



The SCN Training Network is built upon a delivery system that integrates

Saskatchewan's fibre optic system with satellite carriage. In addition to

special events, SCN uses its satellite technology to deliver high school and

post-secondary credit courses to over 160 communities throughout Saskatchewan.

Narrows, Canora, *Esterhazy, Estevan, Fort Qu'Appelle, *Gravelbourg, *Hudson

Bay, Humboldt, *Kelvington, Kindersley, La Ronge, Lloydminster, *Maple Creek,

Meadow Lake, Melfort, Melville, Moose Jaw, Nipawin, North Battleford, Prince

Albert, Regina, *Rosetown, Saskatoon, Spiritwood, Swift Current, Tisdale,

Weyburn, Whitewood, Wynyard and Yorkton.
