About 10.5 km of Highway 16 in the Radisson area will be repaved to create asmoother driving surface for travellers.
The contract for this work was awarded to ASL Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon as the
lowest of five bidders.
"Work is expected to begin on this $1.4 million project in mid-August and will
be completed by mid-September," Highways and Transportation Minister Maynard
Sonntag said. "Completion of this job will require an estimated 18 full-time
workers."
The paving work will take place at various locations along Highway 16 between
Langham and Maymont.
"As part of our National Highway System, it's important to keep Highway 16 in
good condition for the high volume of traffic it carries," Sonntag said.
Across the province, there will be 101 major projects on 53 different
highways. Highways and Transportation's 2000 budget is $250 million, the
largest in the department's history.
Motorists are asked to drive safely through the Orange Zone and watch for
construction signs and equipment.
