Refugees and immigrants living in Moose Jaw and getting help from the Moose JawMulticultual Council to establish homes, educate their children and find jobs
will benefit from a provincial government grant.
Glenn Hagel, MLA for Moose Jaw North, presented a $15,000 grant to the council
on behalf of Municipal Affairs, Culture and Housing Minister Carol Teichrob.
The council will use the money to help people find accommodation, bank, shop
for clothing, provide translation services and language classes, help with
accessing health services and find jobs.
"The provincial government is committed to enhancing the quality of life and
strengthening Saskatchewan communities in many ways," Hagel said. "Support of
groups such as the Moose Jaw Multicultural Council is one way to help new
people to our province feel welcome."
Last year the Moose Jaw Multicultural Council assisted people from Sudan,
India, Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Somalia, a total of 53 new clients. This
year the agency expects to support more immigrants and refugees; up to 50
Kosovar refugees arriving to settle in the Moose Jaw area.
