HIGHWAY RESURFACING ANNOUNCED

Released on May 28, 1998

Highways and Transportation Minister Judy Bradley has announced a

5.2 km resurfacing project on Highway No. 55 valued at over

$1 million.

"Highway work is underway across the province and we are working to

meet our commitment of spending $2.5 billion over 10 years to improve

our highways," Bradley said.

L & R Asphalt, the lowest of seven bidders, was awarded the project on

Highway No. 55 which will see work from 7 km east of its junction

with Highway No. 155 to 1.8 km east of its junction with Highway

No. 155. Work began on the project in mid May and is expected to be

completed by mid June 1998. An estimated 30 jobs will be used in

completing the resurfacing.

This resurfacing is being done in partnership with Clearwater Forest

Products Ltd., as part of the Trucking Partnership Program. Under

this program, the company was able to reduce log trucking costs with

half of the savings used in turn to finance road improvements to

Highway No. 55.

"We appreciate your patience while we are working to improve

Saskatchewan highways," Bradley said. "I urge people to drive

carefully and follow the 60 km speed limit in Orange Zones."
