SASKTEL OPENS REGINA CUSTOMER CARE CENTRE

Released on September 22, 1997

Deputy Premier and Crown Investments Corporation Minister Dwain

Lingenfelter and Garry Simons, group vice president, Operations,

SaskTel, today officially opened the SaskTel Customer Care Centre,

located at 580 Henderson Drive in Regina.

"Call centres are an important aspect of SaskTel's strategic

direction," Lingenfelter said. "The Customer Care Centre being opened

by SaskTel today will serve as a showcase of the company's expertise

to future clients. The national and international recognition that

the Regina Care Centre has earned demonstrates that SaskTel is a world

leader when it comes to providing innovative telecommunications

solutions."

Customers phoning SaskTel to inquire about any of SaskTel's services

will now have their call answered by SaskTel telephone professionals

at the Care Centre. The Care Centre will also handle incoming calls

related to Internet sales, credit services and 114 trouble calls. In

the Care Centre environment, SaskTel customer service representatives

are able to work collectively to answer a much more comprehensive

range of questions for SaskTel customers and do so quicker.

"The Regina Customer Care Centre demonstrates that SaskTel is

committed to exceeding our customer expectations when it comes to

customer service," Simons said. "In fact the Regina Care Centre

was recognized earlier this year for its high level of service in

a national contest among Stentor call centres."

While it first opened in late 1996, SaskTel has only recently

completed its relocation of the services to the Care Centre.

The Regina Care Centre is the first fully blended call centre in

Canada, meaning it can handle both inbound and outbound calls and

multiple services such as sales, inquires and credit services.

The Care Centre has over 100 telephone professional positions,

which are primarily filled by part-time employees. In total, the

Care Centre employs over 200 people.

"During the Crown Review public hearings, our government heard

that Crown Corporations must continue to invest in the province,"

Lingenfelter said. "Establishing the Regina Care Centre is an

investment in the skills of the people who work there and also

positions SaskTel as a leader in call centre technology, a

booming aspect of our economy in the information age."

SaskTel has also played an important role in partnership with the

public, private and co-op sectors to establish 70 call centres in

Saskatchewan, creating over 2000 high end jobs for Saskatchewan

people. SaskTel remains committed to attracting more high

quality call centre employment opportunities to the province.

SaskTel is the leading full service communications company in

Saskatchewan, providing voice, data, Internet, text and messaging

services over a fiber optic-based, 100 per cent digital network,

as well as cellular, paging and FleetNet 800 service through its

SaskTel Mobility division.
