ENVIRONMENT WEEK JUNE 1-7

Released on May 30, 1997

Environment and Resource Management Minister Lorne Scott today

encouraged Saskatchewan residents to celebrate National Environment

Week June 1 to 7.

"Environment Week raises awareness and encourages all of us to take

more responsibility for our actions affecting the environment," Scott

said. "It's a time for all of us to think about how fortunate we are

to live in a province with abundant resources and a clean environment

and to consider what we can do to preserve this inheritance for future

generations."

Activities planned for Environment Week include:

June 3, Tetra Pak, SARCAN and the department's Clean Cat mascot

award a computer to Avery Elementary School in Lloydminster for

collecting the most Tetra Paks in a pilot collection program.

"Lets Root for Canada" June 4, in Prince Albert, part of a

cross-Canada youth ambassador tour by the Tree Canada Foundation

to promote youth, unity and the environment.

Family Fishing Weekend on June 7 and 8, a cooperative program to

promote recreational fishing and raise awareness of the

province's water resources.
