Environment and Resource Management Minister Lorne Scott todayencouraged Saskatchewan residents to celebrate National Environment
Week June 1 to 7.
"Environment Week raises awareness and encourages all of us to take
more responsibility for our actions affecting the environment," Scott
said. "It's a time for all of us to think about how fortunate we are
to live in a province with abundant resources and a clean environment
and to consider what we can do to preserve this inheritance for future
generations."
Activities planned for Environment Week include:
June 3, Tetra Pak, SARCAN and the department's Clean Cat mascot
award a computer to Avery Elementary School in Lloydminster for
collecting the most Tetra Paks in a pilot collection program.
"Lets Root for Canada" June 4, in Prince Albert, part of a
cross-Canada youth ambassador tour by the Tree Canada Foundation
to promote youth, unity and the environment.
Family Fishing Weekend on June 7 and 8, a cooperative program to
promote recreational fishing and raise awareness of the
province's water resources.
