GUYANESE DELEGATION TO VISIT SASKATCHEWAN

Released on July 21, 1997

Deputy Premier and Crown Investments Corporation Minister Dwain

Lingenfelter today announced the visit of Guyanese Prime Minister

Janet Jagan, accompanied by Minister of Finance Bharrat Jagdeo and

Minister of Trade Michael Shree Chan.

"This informal visit is part of the due diligence reviews associated

with the negotiations SaskPower Commercial is undertaking with the

Government of Guyana," Lingenfelter said.

The Guyanese delegation will arrive on Saturday, July 19 for meetings

with senior officials of SaskPower and SaskPower Commercial, followed

by tours of the Corporation's facilities related to hydro and thermal

generation, which are of most interest to the delegation.

"At this point, SaskPower Commercial is continuing the negotiations

with the Government of Guyana, and during this visit no agreement will

be concluded or signed as Cabinet has not approved or invested in this

venture," Lingenfelfter said. "This is strictly a familiarization

visit at the request of the President of Guyana, which is in keeping

with similar visits by SaskPower Commercial officials to Guyana,"

"We are pleased to have the opportunity to meet with the Prime

Minister and ministers to demonstrate first-hand those operations

and capabilities that we have been advancing as important to the

modernization of Guyana's electrical system," SaskPower

Commercial President Michael Hogan said.

The delegation will depart Regina on Monday, July 21.
