MORE TWINNING COMPLETED ON HIGHWAY 16

Released on October 17, 1995

Highways and Transportation Minister Andy Renaud today announced
completion of four-laning on Highway 16 from east of Fielding to east
of Ruddell.

The cost of constructing the 23.6 km section of highway, which is now
open to motorists, was $8.5 million.

"We are excited that another stretch of this important highway is now
twinned," Renaud said. "This will improve safety and bring us a step
closer to making the Yellowhead Highway four lanes from North
Battleford to Saskatoon."

In June, a 28.4 km section from near North Battleford to east of
Ruddell was opened to the public as four-lane highway. It is
anticipated a 14.1 km section to east of Radisson will be completed
next summer. Completion of four-laning from Saskatoon to North
Battleford on Highway 16 is planned for the fall of 1997.

Twinning on Highway 16 was the highlight of the 1993 Saskatchewan
Highway Improvement Plan (SHIP). SHIP was a five-year agreement with
the federal and provincial government each contributing $35 million to
upgrade and repave highways in the national highway network.
