QUEEN GIVES 1995 COMMONWEALTH DAY MESSAGE

Released on March 13, 1995

Lt.-Gov. Jack Wiebe today released the Queen's Commonwealth Day
message. The Queen chose the United Nations theme, the Year for
Tolerance, for her 1995 message.

"The Queen emphasizes the importance of tolerance in the family, the
community, the nation and international relations," the
lieutenant-governor said. "Her Majesty calls for 'a society which
actively develops the people who belong to it, brings out their gifts
and enriches their lives because it values their diversity.'

"This strikes a chord among Saskatchewan people. Developing individual
gifts within a diverse society has been a constant feature of our
community. Indeed, our provincial motto is 'From Many Peoples
Strength'. I commend the Queen's message to the people of
Saskatchewan."

Commonwealth Day is celebrated among the 50 member nations on the
second Monday of March.
