Public Health Measures: Why We Ask You To Do This

  • There is good evidence that wearing a mask prevents transmission of COVID-19.  This is especially important in indoor environments where people share the air.
  • There is no evidence that wearing an appropriate, non-medical mask harms your ability to breathe.

Private, indoor gatherings (including garages and other outbuildings) are limited to immediate household members only

Caregivers and support services
People who live alone can meet with one other household of less than five individuals, as long as it is always the same 

  • Right now, most of the transmission of COVID-19 in Saskatchewan is happening in households.
  • Exceptions have been made  so that families can ensure their children are well cared for, that people who are dependent on home visits from caregivers are still supported, and with consideration for the mental wellbeing of people who live alone.
  • When gathering according to these exceptions, it is recommended to wear masks, minimize close contact, and avoid consuming food or beverages together, whenever possible.
  • The COVID-19 virus can just as easily be transmitted to a family member or close friend as a stranger, so rules should not be relaxed for closer relationships.
  • Very small gatherings are allowed to continue at public venues like restaurants (outside Regina and area), since these must follow strict rules for masking, cleaning and disinfection, and distancing.  Public health officials can also more easily ensure that public health orders are being followed in these public locations.  While you can meet with other households at indoor public venues, it is not recommended.
Outdoor gatherings limited to 10 people maximum, with physical distancing between households
  • Outdoor gatherings are less risky than indoor ones.
  • If gathering outdoors, keep numbers low, don't share food and drinks, distance, and wear a mask when distancing isn't possible.

  • Personal services include salons/barbershops, esthetics, massage therapy, acupuncture, tanning, tattooing, etc.

  • Indoor environments are less risky when they are less crowded, as physical distancing can be maintained.

Indoor venues (e.g. Conference facilities, banquet facilities, community halls, arenas, movie theatres, live theatres, performing arts venues, museums, art galleries, libraries) are limited to 30 people

Regina and area: Event venues such as conference facilities, museums, libraries, live theatre, cinemas, bowling or any non-essential indoor location that had limits of 30 individuals are not permitted to operate at this time.

  • Consuming food and beverages requires you to remove your mask and increases your risk.
  • Consider attending the event virtually using online/social media platforms.
  • Purchase your ticket/admission online to limit hand-to-hand contact.
  • Practice physical distancing and wear your mask if you choose to attend the event in person.

Bars/Restaurants must space tables by 3 metres (2 metres with an impermeable barrier), and only four people per table.

Regina and area: All bars/restaurants must close for in-person dining.  Take-out and delivery is permitted.

  • Consuming alcohol can reduce inhibitions, resulting in riskier behaviours such as louder talking, mask removal, or mixing between groups. Liquor curfews support businesses by helping patrons to comply with all guidelines.
  • Collecting guest information supports public health who will be able to get in contact with patrons and control virus spread if exposure happened at a location.
All team/group sports, activities, games, competitions and practices are suspended.
Exceptions: athletes and dancers under 18 can continue practicing, conditioning and skills training in groups of 8 or fewer
  • Activities where you breathe heavily, especially in indoor environments, are higher risk. Contact between participants further increases risk.
  • Sometimes people let down their guard with close teammates and engage in higher risk activities such as carpooling together, removing masks, or not distancing in locker rooms, and sharing food and drinks following games/practices.
  • Saskatchewan saw increased transmission of the virus between households due to participation in team sports activities prior to sports being paused.
  • Remember that outdoor rinks, tobogganing hills, cross-country ski trails and snowmobile trails should not exceed 30 people and masks should be worn if physical distancing isn't possible. If rink surfaces or recreational areas are busy, come back when it's not as full or use another area.
  • Wear a mask and practice frequent hand hygiene before, during and after outdoor play.
  • Reduce the risk of COVID-19 transmission by not sharing toys or sports equipment between non-household groups.
All gyms and studios must ensure that group fitness classes do not exceed eight people

  • It's safe to wear a mask while exercising. Your heart rate, respiratory rate, blood pressure, and oxygen level are not significantly affected by wearing a mask during moderate to strenuous aerobic physical activity.
  • Booking your fitness activity or group fitness class ahead of time helps ensure you get a spot and helps public health to be able to get in contact with patrons and control virus spread if exposure happened at a location.
  • Wash your hands before and after you work out, use hand sanitizer when transitioning between pieces of equipment, and disinfect equipment after use to help to keep virus from spreading between surfaces.

Reduced capacity to 30 people at places of worship and religious/culture gatherings (includes all worship services, including celebrations of live, funerals/wakes, weddings, baptisms, and outdoor ceremonies, but not receptions or non-ceremonial gatherings).
