Today, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA), in partnership with Wavelength Entertainment, is celebrating Season Four of the docuseries Guardians of the North, which was filmed in the province.
The Season Four premiere will air on April 21, 2026, at 10 p.m. CST on Citytv Saskatchewan.
Guardians of the North follows wildland firefighters and support staff in Saskatchewan's Indigenous and northern communities while they protect the people, property and resources of the north.
Consisting of six episodes, Season Four focuses on the unprecedented wildfire season of 2025 during which communities experienced a tremendous loss of homes and cabins. Season Four documents the immense scope of the wildfires, focusing on the La Ronge area.
"This docuseries accentuates the dedication of first responders who provided firefighting, search and rescue and emergency response services during the unprecedented 2025 wildfire season," Community Safety Minister Michael Weger said. "Communities, agencies and first responders worked tirelessly in protecting the people of Saskatchewan, and this series provides us a deeper understanding of the work involved."
The magnitude of the 2025 wildfire season, which had saw more than 500 wildfires in the province burn 2.9 million hectares, is captured in the docuseries.
“Season Four captures the scale and intensity of the unprecedented 2025 wildfire season, but more importantly, it shows the discipline, decision-making and resilience of the people on the front lines protecting northern communities,” Wavelength Entertainment Principal Partner and Guardians of the North producer Chris Trillo said. “We witnessed the best crews, supervisors, coordinators, pilots, and community responders working under extreme pressure to protect lives and communities. Their grit, heart, and relentless dedication to protecting lives and resources is nothing short of heroic."
While educating the audience about how the SPSA responds to emergencies, the Agency is aware that some of the episodes may be emotional for viewers to watch. The SPSA receives no financial benefit from the show and is working closely with Wavelength Entertainment to ensure each episode is respectful of the stories being told.
The SPSA is a Treasury Board Crown that provides public safety services including fire safety training, investigation, emergency planning, response, recovery and emergency communications. The Agency operates Sask911, SaskAlert, the Provincial Disaster Assistance Program and the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre.
