Passing of the Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield

Her Honour the Honourable Bernadette McIntyre, Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan, regrets to share the sad news of the death of the Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield, S.O.M., C.D., S.V.M., on April 8th, 2026 in Regina, following a brief time in the hospital.

"I offer deep condolences to her family and friends, and to the thousands of Saskatchewan residents the former Lieutenant Governor touched during her time in office from 2012 to 2018," Lieutenant Governor Bernadette McIntyre said. "Vaughn had a strong background in community work and volunteer service, and her dedicated support of the military was evident throughout her time in office."

Before being installed as the province's 21st Lieutenant Governor, Ms. Solomon Schofield was appointed the Provincial Chair of the Canadian Forces Liaison Council and served as Honorary Colonel of 10 Field Artillery Regiment. She was also a recipient of the Canadian Forces Medallion for Distinguished Service and the Saskatchewan Volunteer Medal.

During her term, Ms. Solomon Schofield established the Lieutenant Governor's Military Service Pin, which were distributed to over 8,000 acting or former military people who have lived in Saskatchewan. Additionally, she hosted the Support our Troops Gala, which was a national fundraiser for charities that assisted military families. In 2025, Ms. Solomon Schofield became the Honorary Colonel of 15 Wing Moose Jaw.

Lieutenant Governor McIntyre offered a further personal message: "I remember Vaughn's friendly smile and cheery greeting when we would run into each other over the summer in her beloved Regina Beach. I was thrilled to be on hand to see Vaughn receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws from the University of Regina last year, for which she was deservedly proud."

The Honourable Vaughn Solomon Schofield was married to the late Gordon Schofield, and they had two children and four grandchildren.
