IMPROVED EDUCATION FOR SIAST STUDENTS

Released on August 23, 2000

Students starting classes at the new SIAST campus in Regina this fall will have

even more opportunities to get a better education thanks to a number of

improvements.

Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training and SIAST are investing an

additional $4 million at the consolidated campus. The additional funding

includes: expansion to accommodate the increased student numbers in the Nursing

Education Program, a Student Wellness Centre, an Aboriginal Student Centre, a

daycare and to accommodate technology enhanced learning.

"We are making a good project even better by responding to the changing needs

of students and investing in their future," Post-Secondary Education and Skills

Training Minister Glenn Hagel said. "This new campus is crucial to helping

Saskatchewan people prepare for the many job opportunities coming available."

The grand opening of the new campus is planned for September 28th. The new,

consolidated campus facility creates unique opportunities for innovative

partnerships in education, training and research in what is becoming known as

Regina's Knowledge Corridor.

"This is really something to celebrate," SIAST President Dr. Art Knight said.

"For the first time ever, SIAST programs and services in Regina will be housed

in one convenient location. This new facility will strengthen a sense of

community for over 2,000 full-time and 8,000 part-time students, and 350

employees."

"It is important Saskatchewan students have access to programs and services

that meet their needs. This facility will ensure Saskatchewan post-secondary

students can make the most of their career opportunities now and in the

future," Hagel said.

The new SIAST Wascana Campus replaces eight locations scattered throughout the

city of Regina.
