Today in Saskatoon, Provincial Secretary Nadine Wilson will join Lieutenant Governor Vaughn Solomon Schofield to take part in ceremonies recognizing the newest recipients of the Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal.
“It is truly a special calling to devote your career to the care and well-being of our people and communities,” Wilson said. “It is my privilege to recognize those who often put themselves at risk to ensure that we can maintain a safe and high quality of life for all Saskatchewan people.”
The medal honours individuals with 25 years or more of exemplary service protecting Saskatchewan people or their property either in a volunteer or full-time capacity.
The Saskatchewan Protective Services Medal focuses attention on the efforts and work of police, fire and emergency professionals, and others working in the field of safety and security.
Recipients receive a circular medal surmounted by the St. Edward's Crown, which bears a shield with a lion on a stylized western red lily and the motto Qui civitatem tuentur (who guard the citizenry). The medal is suspended from a ribbon of green with two narrow gold stripes, which are the provincial colours. The medal was established in 2003.
Seventy-two long-serving individuals from both urban and rural communities are to be recognized today. The medals will be presented at morning and afternoon ceremonies in Saskatoon.
