Captive Wildlife in Saskatchewan
The growing interest in exotic wildlife as pets and the rehabilitation of native species has raised new public safety concerns, along with a focus on maintaining the integrity of our province's ecosystems.
The list of species that may be kept as pets has been modernized to better address risks to public safety, animal and ecosystem health, and species conservation.
Restricted species may only be held by qualified individuals, facilities or by people who have notified the ministry.
Captive Wildlife Permitting and Licensing
Captive wildlife licences and permits are issued to qualified individuals or facilities that meet specific criteria. Applications for various licences can be found in the Publications Centre.
As of June 1, 2021, pet retailers may import, export, transport, breed and sell any animals listed as Allowed without permitting requirements.
