Weed Management Webinar Series

By Margaret Parsons, AAg, Agri-Environmental Specialist, Humboldt

November 2025

Invasive weeds can be found in rangelands, pastures, roadsides, ditches and riparian areas. These weeds are usually perennial or biennial in their life cycle and spread aggressively in areas where there is less competition from other plants. Once established, there can be long-term problems that arise as they continue to spread and out compete desirable species. In rangelands, invasive weeds negatively impact forage productivity and biodiversity and, if noxious, may also be harmful to livestock or wildlife. Controlling invasive weeds can be challenging and often requires an integrated management approach that may include chemical, physical and biological control options. Targeted grazing, herbicides, mowing and prescribed fire are among the methods that can be used, but success can vary.

Starting in February 2026, the ministry is offering a four-part webinar series on invasive weeds. Three of the webinars will discuss management of a single species and the final webinar will have a focus on management practices to control weeds in newly established forage stands. Speakers will include ministry extension specialists and a plant health technical advisor.

Participants who attend the live events will be eligible to earn Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) credits.
