2019 Guide to Crop Protection

The Guide to Crop Protection (GCP) is a quick reference guide for producers that helps them to determine what crop inputs are required for the upcoming growing season based on crop type and pest. The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture and the Manitoba Department of Agriculture collaborate on this annual publication. Our specialists work with crop input manufacturers to ensure that the information in the GCP is current and accurate.

The GCP is divided into four sections: Weed Control, Foliar Fungicides, Seed Treatments and Insect Control. The Weed Control, Foliar Fungicide and Insect Control section begin with charts based on crop type, and within the charts you can find the specific pest and products recommendations for that pest. Once you have identified potential products, the product pages will provide you with detailed information on each product. The GCP is only a guide intended for producers, and as such, it is important that producers refer to the product labels prior to using a product. If there is a conflict between the GCP product pages and the specific product label, the label is to be considered the official version.

The updated GCP was distributed in early March. The Guide to Crop Protection is available in Saskatchewan at no cost. Hard copies of the GCP are available at most major crop input retailers in Saskatchewan, any of the Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture Regional Offices or by emailing the GCP coordinator at and requesting copies.  An electronic version is available on the Guide to Crop Protection web page.
