Another growing season is already well underway in Saskatchewan as many producers got an early start to seeding. It’s a busy time of year for all of us in the industry. I am honoured to be back as your Agriculture Minister following the provincial election and to continue to work on behalf of such an important sector.
Our government is working to finalize the upcoming provincial budget. I can assure you, investments in agriculture remain a priority. Although our economy is facing challenging times, agriculture is a strong foundation. Each of you helps to contribute to the health of our industry with your passion and innovative spirit.
Last year, Saskatchewan’s agri-food exports broke a record, surpassing $15 billion. That was a goal we hoped to reach by 2020 as part of the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth. It is a tremendous accomplishment and one that should make us all very proud. Our government helps support the agriculture industry through investments in research and programs, but I know the work to achieve a feat like this happens on the ground with the dedication of producers and the entire value chain. I am confident we can continue to meet and exceed our goals in the busy months to come.
