The Saskatchewan Ministry of Agriculture has developed an online survey for the public to provide input on the programs and services to be offered after Growing Forward 2 (GF2) expires in March 2018.
In June 2016, Ministry staff met in Regina with representatives from commodity organizations to hear their main priorities for the Next Policy Framework (NPF). This event helped to inform the Calgary Statement, which laid out six priority areas for the NPF which consisted of:
- Markets and trade
- Science, research and innovation
- Risk management
- Environmental sustainability and climate change
- Value-added agriculture and agri-food processing
- Public trust
The next step is to determine what types of programs should be offered to work towards these six priorities. GF2 currently offers programs that contribute to each of these six priorities and there is a chance to make adjustments to adapt to new and emerging opportunities.
The online survey will help to determine which of the program components are the most important to the industry and to the public. It also offers the opportunity to make suggestions for new additions to the next framework. Following the survey, a report will be compiled to share the results. This survey is specific to strategic initiatives program activities for the NPF. Separate consultations for Business Risk Management programs will be announced at a later date, along with further events with stakeholders in 2017 as the new suite of programs takes shape.
