Municipalities Today is a web-based newsletter published monthly by the Ministry of Government Relations. It lists deadlines, training opportunities, services and programs that may be of interest to Saskatchewan municipal officials.

1. Municipal Administrators’ Corner – Apply for the Targeted Sector Support Cost-Shared Grant Funding
Applications are being accepted for the Targeted Sector Support (TSS) cost-shared grant program. This initiative uses a portion of Municipal Revenue Sharing ($1.5 million per fiscal year) to support projects that strengthen municipalities core operational capabilities through increased regional cooperation. Projects should support more efficient and effective municipal service delivery and enhanced governance and administrative capacity in Saskatchewan. Partnering municipalities can apply for up to 75 per cent of eligible project costs to the maximum amount of $100,000 to strengthen their core municipal responsibilities.
The initiative is managed by SUMA on behalf of the TSS Steering Committee that consists of SUMA, SARM, New North and the Ministry of Government Relations.

2. Local Authorities’ Requirement for Reporting of 2025 Building Official Appointments
The Construction Codes Act requires local authorities to annually report the status of their building official appointments from the previous fiscal year to the Chief Codes Administrator.
Within 60 days after the end of a local authority’s fiscal year (by the end of February), the local authority must provide:
- The name and licence number of every building official who, in the previous fiscal year (January 1 to December 31, 2025):
- Was appointed
- Had their appointment cancelled
- Had their appointment suspended
Local authorities can use this convenient online form to submit the information. This is faster and easier than emailing or mailing it to Building and Technical Standards.

3. Peer to Peer: Saskatchewan Municipal Peer Network
Municipal leaders may face a variety of challenges and sometimes need extra support. The Saskatchewan Municipal Peer Network is available to help.
The Saskatchewan Municipal Peer Network connects municipal administrators and elected officials with highly experienced peers who can give guidance and coaching and offer options to help address local issues, use best governance practices, better understand roles and responsibilities, and other related matters.
The volunteer mentors have extensive experience as administrators, mayors, reeves and councillors. Mentors can be reached by phone and all conversations are confidential and free of charge.

4. Workshops on Zoning and Building Requirements
Community Planning and Building and Technical Standards branches will be delivering a series of joint workshops across Saskatchewan in late April/early May 2026. These sessions will focus on why the zoning and building bylaws matter rather than how they are approved and highlight key responsibilities of local authorities.
Workshops are open to anyone interested including elected officials, administrators and community members and run from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a one-hour lunch break. Coffee and tea are provided; please bring your own lunch.
Workshops will be held in:
- Weyburn
- Melville
- Humboldt
- Swift Current
- Kindersley
- North Battleford

5. SARM Convention to Feature Government Relations Trade Show Booth
Once again, the Ministry of Government Relations will have a tradeshow booth at the upcoming Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) Convention and Trade Show in Regina.
If you want information about municipal legislation, community planning or other related topics, visit booth 166 at the trade show being held in the International Trade Centre at the REAL District.
The ministry will have staff available from Advisory Services and Municipal Relations, Building and Technical Standards, the Community Planning Branch and other program areas to answer questions.
