Use of CAPTCHA

Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart (CAPTCHA) is a type of test used to determine whether or not a user is human or a computer. They are used to prevent automated software from completing a form or accessing a system.

GoS does not use CAPTCHAs due to:

  1. Usability - CAPTCHAs are designed to be hard to read and understand, this makes the service very difficult to use.
  2. Accessibility - The service presents a major problem to users who are blind, have low vision or have a learning disability. It makes the service not available.
  3. Conversion Rate - CAPTCHAs drives visitors aways from websites, far less users will answer a form if there is a CAPTCHA. They cause far more problems than they solve.
