Deputy Premier and Education Minister Gordon Wyant has proclaimed October 15 as School Bus Driver Appreciation Day in Saskatchewan. Every day, school bus drivers ensure that more than 70,000 Saskatchewan students are safely transported to and from school. School buses travel approximately 250,000 kilometres per day which results in more than 46 million kilometres travelled each year.“I want to thank all the school bus drivers across the province for their commitment to the safety of the students who ride the buses to and from school,” Wyant said. “I encourage everyone to take some time today to recognize school bus drivers in their communities.”
The Student Transportation Association of Saskatchewan (STAS) represents individuals who drive students to and from school on behalf of Saskatchewan school divisions.
“STAS would like to thank all the school bus drivers in Saskatchewan for their tireless efforts to provide safe, timely transportation of students to and from school,” STAS President Trish Anderson said. “School bus drivers play an incredibly important role in the lives of students. By providing safe transportation to school every day, they are supporting the future success of Saskatchewan students.”
Celebrated since 2010, School Bus Driver Appreciation Day is observed on the first day of Education Week, October 14 – 20, to recognize the important role that school bus drivers play in safely transporting students to and from school.
