Yorkton Family Receives Habitat for Humanity Home with Support from Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan

• The Government of Canada, through CMHC, along with the Government of Saskatchewan, through SHC, jointly contributed $50,000 to build the home through the federal/provincial Social Infrastructure Fund.
• This home was also built in partnership with labour support from the Construction Worker Preparation Program at the White Spruce Provincial Training Centre.  The 12-week program provides participants with 400 hours toward a Journeyman Certificate, and the opportunity to gain real-life vocational skills in a construction environment.
• This Habitat for Humanity home, located at 222 Betts Avenue, is a 1,008 ft² (94 m²) raised.
• The province’s overall commitment to Habitat for Humanity totals $10.85 million since March 2009.  Of this amount, the federal and provincial governments have invested $3 million, thanks to the federal/provincial Social Infrastructure Fund to build additional affordable homes in various communities around Saskatchewan.
• This investment supports Saskatchewan’s Housing Strategy and Poverty Reduction Strategy by ensuring Saskatchewan people in greatest need have access to affordable, safe, secure and stable housing.
• Habitat for Humanity’s innovative delivery model provides opportunities for families to stabilize their housing and to achieve their homeownership goals.  Each partner family selected by Habitat for Humanity contributes 500 partnering hours in building their home or other Habitat homes.  To learn more about Habitat for Humanity and their work across Saskatchewan, visit www.habitat.ca.
