Saskatchewan recorded the strongest manufacturing sales growth in western Canada, with an increase of 13.5 per cent compared to the previous year (seasonally adjusted). This was the second highest percentage growth among the provinces and stronger than a national increase of 6.0 per cent.“Saskatchewan’s diverse and resilient economy is paving the way for strengthened sales in the manufacturing sector,” Economy Minister Steven Bonk said. “This sector continues to produce high-value goods which are shipped to markets across the world - in turn strengthening our province’s economy that has been projected to lead Canada in growth over the next two years.”
On a monthly basis, Saskatchewan’s manufacturing sales increased by 4.4 per cent, compared to October 2017 (seasonally adjusted). This reflects the strongest increase in Western Canada, the fourth highest growth among the provinces and is above the national average of 3.4 per cent.
Areas with major gains between November 2016 and November 2017 were machinery manufacturing, up by 63.9 per cent and wood products, up by 42.6 per cent.
