In addition to the hundreds of kilometres of highway improvements across the province, the Government of Saskatchewan will be investing more than $50 million this year on bridges and culverts. With more than 100,000 lakes and rivers in Saskatchewan, bridges are an important part of efficient transportation throughout the province.
“Repairing and replacing bridges and culverts is an important component of highway improvements,” Highways and Infrastructure Minster David Marit said. “These bridge projects support continued growth in the province, while also improving the quality of life for our citizens.”
Bridge work underway in Saskatchewan includes:
- Highway 1, Swift Current – Repairs on the westbound bridge at Highway 1 and Central Avenue in Swift Current.
- Highway 11, Saskatoon – Repairs on the northbound lanes over the CN rail line south of Saskatoon.
- Highway 55, Shoal Lake – Replacing the timber bridge with a new pre-cast concrete bridge 30 km west of the Highway 9 junction.
- Highway 240, Shellbrook - Construction of a new concrete bridge north of the Highway 3 junction near Shellbrook.
- Highway 903, Canoe Lake – Replacing the timber bridge with new pre-cast concrete bridge about 62 km north of the Highway 965 junction near Canoe Lake.
