Business Opportunity Expo Promotes Two-Way Conversations

Released on May 9, 2017

Government and business are meeting today to talk about procurement at the 2017 Business Opportunity Expo at Evraz Place in Regina.

The 2017 Business Opportunity Expo is a one-day event where business people can meet face-to-face with public sector representatives to learn how to bid on public procurement opportunities.

Representatives from various government ministries and Crown corporations, as well as the municipal, academic and health sector, are on hand to talk about specific opportunities with their organizations.  It is also an opportunity for government to answer questions and discuss new ideas from the business community.

“Saskatchewan entrepreneurs are innovative and have immense industry expertise,” Central Services Minister Christine Tell said.  “The Business Opportunity Expo is a chance for us to talk with suppliers and find ways to bring that expertise to the table to achieve the best value in procurement for our province.”

The Expo showcases government’s commitment to working with Saskatchewan businesses in a manner that is fair, open, competitive and transparent.  To help foster dialogue with the business community, several presentations and networking opportunities are planned, including workshops by the Ministry of the Economy, SaskBuilds and SaskPower.  Economy Minister Jeremy Harrison will deliver the keynote address.

“Constructive dialogue between the government and private sector is the crucial first step to establishing better procurement practices and developing the trust necessary to benefit everyone, including taxpayers and Saskatchewan businesses,” Saskatchewan Construction Association President and CEO Mark Cooper said.

Public procurement opportunities are posted on www.sasktenders.ca.  The website offers free registration and an online Knowledge Centre where anyone can learn about government procurement policies like Best Value Procurement, and find templates and guidelines to help suppliers navigate the procurement process.
