Construction Begins on Martensville and Warman Overpasses

People living in Martensville and Warman are one step closer to safer highway access to their communities.  Construction is now underway on a $60.6 million project to build overpasses on Highway 11 near Warman and Highway 12 at Martensville.

“Strategic infrastructure investments help address congestion and bottlenecks along vital transportation corridors, and around hubs and ports,” said Ralph Goodale, federal Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness on behalf of Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities.  “Investing in projects such as these interchanges in Martensville and Warman will help shorten travel times and improve access to world markets, bolstering economic growth and the prosperity of the middle class and all those working hard to get there.”

The overpass on Highway 11 will provide a safe route in and out of Warman, in addition to allowing for future expansion of the road network in the area.  In Martensville, the new overpass will disperse traffic along Main Street and Centennial Drive.  With approximately 14,000 vehicles per day on Highway 12, it will also reduce congestion and provide access to current and future developments.

“Investing in infrastructure is a priority for the Government of Saskatchewan,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister David Marit said.  “Warman and Martensville are Saskatchewan’s fastest growing communities, and we believe the improved safety and efficiency the new overpasses provide will help this region continue to grow and thrive into the future.”

Peter Kiewit Sons, one of the largest contractors in the world with offices across Canada including a local office in Saskatoon, was selected to build the overpasses after successfully completing a rigorous procurement process.  Kiewit had the greatest concentration of Saskatchewan partners among the companies bidding on the project and is in negotiations with several other Saskatchewan-based subcontractors and suppliers.

  • Turner Transport (Saskatchewan);
  • Super Save (Saskatchewan);
  • Garchinski Electric (Saskatchewan); and
  • Carlton Trail Railway (Saskatchewan).
“Kiewit is pleased to once again be working with the Government of Saskatchewan,” Kiewit Project Director Tim Rule said.  “We have a long history here and projects like the Warman and Martensville Interchange provide our Saskatchewan employees an opportunity to contribute to the growth and prosperity of their home province.  We look forward to the successful completion of this project and opportunities well into the future.”

The governments of Canada and Saskatchewan are contributing to this project through the Provincial-Territorial Infrastructure Component – National and Regional Projects (PTIC-NRP).  The Government of Canada will contribute up to fifty per cent of the total eligible costs, while the Government of Saskatchewan will be responsible for the remaining costs.  Construction of the overpasses is scheduled for completion in the fall of 2019.
