Released on May 19, 2016
May 2016 has been proclaimed Missing Children’s Month in Saskatchewan. This month coincides with Child Find Saskatchewan’s 25th Annual Green Ribbon of Hope Campaign.“Having a child go missing is unfathomable,” Social Services Minister Donna Harpauer said. “Yet, every year, we hear of Saskatchewan children going missing and see the impact this has on their family, friends and the entire community. Proclaiming May as Missing Children’s Month gives us all an opportunity to remember that a missing child is everyone’s responsibility.”
Green ribbons may be obtained at participating Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority stores throughout the province in exchange for a donation during the month of May. They can also be obtained by contacting Child Find Saskatchewan at 306-955-0070.
“Wearing a Green Ribbon of Hope is a way to show your concern for missing children and their families,” Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant said. “Child Find Saskatchewan is an important partner and we value the role they play in both assisting law enforcement agencies and other partners to help locate missing children, and educating children and adults about staying safe.”
In March, the Ministry of Justice provided $50,000 to Child Find Saskatchewan. Activities to recognize Missing Children’s Month include a charity breakfast at the Hilton Garden Hotel in Saskatoon on May 25, with proceeds going to Child Find Saskatchewan. Everyone is welcome to attend and the breakfast is free of charge and donations are welcome. To RSVP to the breakfast, please email childfind@childfind.sk.ca.
”We believe that all children have the right to be safe and are dedicated to promote awareness of the issues relating to missing children,” Child Find Saskatchewan President Phyllis Hallatt said. “We want to thank everyone who wears a Green Ribbon for sending the message to missing children and their families across Canada that there is hope.”
