Saskatchewan Has the 3rd Lowest Utility Bundle in Canada

Released on June 15, 2016

Saskatchewan Crown Utilities Continue to Offer Competitive Rates to Saskatchewan Consumers Saskatchewan’s aggregate utility costs for telephone, electricity, heating and auto insurance continue to rank third lowest when compared to other provinces in Canada.

“The Crowns are succeeding in keeping utility costs among the lowest in Canada,” Crown Investments Corporation Minister Don McMorris said.  “We know this is important to Saskatchewan rate payers and that is why the Crowns continue to strive to provide reliable services at affordable rates.”

The Crown Investments Corporation tracks the competitiveness of Saskatchewan utility rates relative to other provinces.  The most recent comparison uses annual costs from April 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016, with the exception of Saskatchewan heating and electricity rates which have been adjusted to reflect proposed rates that would take affect November 1, 2016 (SaskEnergy) and January 1, 2017 (SaskPower).

“The Provinces of Manitoba and British Columbia had lower overall costs than Saskatchewan primarily due to large, low-cost supplies of hydroelectricity,” McMorris said.  “Our Crowns continue to grow and prosper along with our province and they will continue to invest in the necessary infrastructure to keep that growth and prosperity going.”
