Day Program Re-Opens in Redvers

Released on August 30, 2016

Cannington MLA Dan D’Autremont on behalf of Social Services Minister Tina Beaudry-Mellor today attended a grand re-opening ceremony of the Redvers Activity Centre day program facility.  D’Autremont was joined by program participants, families, dignitaries and Redvers residents to celebrate the re-opening of the day program that supports approximately 25 individuals experiencing disabilities.

“The Redvers Activity Centre is an inspirational institution in this town,” D’Autremont said.  “The integration of the activity centre clients into the community has benefited us all.  As a government, we are pleased to contribute to programming that strengthens the supports delivered to individuals in Redvers now and in the future.  This investment aligns with our government’s commitment to individuals experiencing disabilities, as stated in the Saskatchewan Disability Strategy.”

The grand re-opening of the Redvers Activity Centre day program took place following renovations and improvements to the facility, which included the addition of a fully accessible washroom and front entrance, installation of a wheelchair-accessible shower and personal care room, and upgrades to the kitchen and floors.  In addition to the day program, Redvers Activity Centre Inc. owns and operates three group homes and a Supported Independent Living Program.  They also operate revenue-generating businesses, including a SARCAN recycling depot and a greenhouse.

“Our centre supports an aging population whose needs are changing, and these improvements will allow participants to attend our program for as long as they choose,” Redvers Activity Centre Executive Director Marsha Goforth said.  “We appreciate the Government of Saskatchewan’s contribution to our centre so that individuals in our community can continue to receive the supports they need to live full and healthy lives.”

The Government of Saskatchewan provided more than $197,000 in capital to this project and continues to provide operational funding.
