Highway 322 Reopened as Significant Repairs Complete Near Silton

Released on October 8, 2015

Weekly Construction Update

Traffic is moving again on Highway 322 as crews put the finishing touches on paving the first four kilometres from its junction with Highway 20.  This section has been upgraded to a granular pavement consistent with the current surface on Highway 20.  It will provide a smoother, stronger surface for regional traffic.  Detours had been in place since construction on the project began in late August.

Today, crews will begin the final seal of the newly paved road.  Signs will alert motorists to slow to 60 km/hr while travelling on the road until it has set.  An additional 13 kilometres of Highway 322 was improved as crews added and compacted gravel to stabilize the driving surface.

Ministry crews are currently sealing and patching sections of the road that did not experience the same level of damage this spring.  The ministry continues to work with local stakeholders to identify long-term solutions to issues related to the remainder of Highways 322 and 220.

This week, crews began replacing timber bridges with concrete bridges on Highway 9 near Hudson Bay and on Highway 914 near Pinehouse.  Crews also completed paving work on Highway 51 from Kerrobert to Major and on Highways 4 and 16 near North Battleford.

Additional travel information about emergency road closures, the status of ferries, barges, and other road activities can also be found on the Highway Hotline at www.saskatchewan.ca/live/transportation/highway-hotline.  It's also available by calling 306-787-7623 in Regina, 306-933-8333 in Saskatoon and toll-free across Canada at 1-888-335-7623.

Drivers are reminded to observe posted speed limits in construction zones and slow to 60 km/hr when passing highway workers and equipment.

The Government of Saskatchewan has invested a record $5.2 billion in transportation infrastructure since 2008.
