Today, Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart proclaimed October 4 to 10, as Animal Health Week in Saskatchewan. The week acknowledges producers’ commitment to the health and well-being of their animals.“Our farmers and ranchers are committed to ensuring that their livestock are healthy and cared for,” Stewart said. “Whether by vaccinating their animals or implementing on-farm biosecurity measures, they work every day to keep their animals in good health. The Government of Saskatchewan would like to recognize them for that and I invite others across the province to do the same.”
Animal Health Week in Saskatchewan coincides with Animal Health Week in Canada, as proclaimed by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. Animal health experts also view the week as an opportunity to remind producers of the importance of properly managing the health of their livestock.
“Saskatchewan’s producers have shown a tremendous commitment to the health of their animals,” Saskatchewan Veterinary Medical Association 2015 President Dr. Cheryl Bellamy said. “By continuing to uphold this commitment, they will help to cement our province’s reputation of being home to responsible ranchers and farmers who produce safe, high quality food and byproducts.”
