Province Supports Interpersonal Violence Programming in Regina

Released on May 22, 2015

The Government of Saskatchewan continues to support Regina programs that assist victims of interpersonal violence and abuse. Eight organizations will receive more than $2.5 million this year.

“It’s important that these programs  are able to continue the good work they’re doing for the people of Regina,” Regina Douglas Park MLA Russ Marchuk said on behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant.  “Our involvement is a testament to this government’s commitment to victims of interpersonal violence and abuse in the province.”

In 2015-16, $2.5 million will be divided among the following organizations located in Regina:
  • Family Service Regina;
  • Regina Transition Women’s Society;
  • YWCA of Regina (Isabel Johnson Shelter);
  • TFHQ Safe Shelter (Wichihik Iskewak Safe House);
  • Regina Sexual Assault Centre;
  • Sexual Assault Services of Saskatchewan;
  • Provincial Association of Transition Houses and Services of Saskatchewan; and
  • Saskatchewan Towards Offering Partnership Solutions to Violence.
“Stable funding from the Ministry of Justice allows us to focus our energy on the core services of residential support, children’s programming, outreach services and safety planning for at-risk women and children in our community,” Regina Transition House Executive Director Maria Hendrika said.

“Through the financial support from the Ministry of Justice, we are able to continue offering victims of interpersonal violence the support and resources needed to live a life free of violence for themselves and their families,” Family Service Regina CEO Shellie Pociuk said.  “This ongoing funding supports the delivery of effective services and programs to address the complexity of interpersonal violence in our community.”

Province-wide, the Ministry of Justice's Interpersonal Violence and Abuse Program is providing more than $11 million toward interpersonal violence programming this fiscal year.
