Today Lloydminster MLA Colleen Young, on behalf of Saskatchewan Education Minister Don Morgan, joined students, teachers, families, members of the community and representatives from the Government of Alberta and the Lloydminster Public School Division (LPSD) to officially commemorate the opening of the new $29.5 million College Park School. The Government of Saskatchewan contributed $7.5 million toward this project.“This funding partnership with Alberta is important to the success of our students and to the growth and prosperity of Saskatchewan and your community,” Young said. “This project is an excellent example of putting the Student First by providing them with a modern, safe and state of the art school that will encourage their passion for learning.”
College Park School is home to approximately 550 students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 9 and is divided into five learning pods, including a play space for Pre-K and Kindergarten programs, student support rooms and break-out areas. It achieves LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards with a solarwall in the gymnasium that pre-heats the air in the colder months and translucent wall panels that reduces heat caused by direct sunlight in the warmer months. For the community, there is a 95-space licensed daycare as well as after-school use in the gymnasium, theatre and music room.
"The opening of College Park School comes at a critical time in the growth of the Lloydminster Public School Division, creating space and capacity to deliver programs that provides an opportunity for students to experience personal excellence,” Board of Education Chair David Thompson said. “Saskatchewan Ministry of Education officials worked closely with LPSD's Board of Education from the concept stage through to completion."
"College Park School is a modern and bright learning environment where students feel welcome and engaged in learning,” College Park School Principal Dave McLennan said. “Being Lloydminster’s only Kindergarten to Grade 9 School, College Park offers the opportunity for older students to work closer with and engage with a wider variety of students. The people and school’s culture make it a great place to teach and learn."
Since 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $948 million toward 65 major school capital projects and numerous smaller projects such as portable classrooms and preventative maintenance and renewal.
