The Government of Saskatchewan is taking action to ensure the safety of North Battleford communities and families through the Municipal Police Grants. This provincial contribution of $770,000 will fund seven North Battleford RCMP positions in 2015-16.“Community safety has always been a major priority for the Government of Saskatchewan,” Environment Minister and North Battleford MLA Herb Cox said on behalf of Corrections and Policing Minister Christine Tell. “We are able to provide support to the community of North Battleford through continued funding of the Municipal Police Grants.”
The Municipal Police Grant supports enhanced community policing throughout the city. The grant allows the RCMP to focus on priority areas for the City of North Battleford. The funding enables officers to have a more visible role in the community and allows for targeted enforcement to address serious and organized crime in the city.
“The continued support of the Municipal Police Grants enables us to ensure our community’s safety,” North Battleford Mayor Ian Hamilton said. “We are grateful to the province for their continued support of policing in North Battleford.”
The provincial government provides funding annually to urban police services across the province to support 125 municipal police positions and policing initiatives. This grant fulfills the government’s commitment for 120 new police officers and is part of the ministry’s ongoing commitment to supporting the policing services within the province’s municipalities.
