Two Nights to Celebrate Christmas Victorian Style at Government House

Released on December 7, 2015

Due to overwhelming popularity, the Provincial Capital Commission will host their annual Old-Fashioned Victorian Christmas on two nights at Government House this year.

The free family event will be held Thursday, December 10 and Saturday, December 12 from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. at 4607 Dewdney Avenue.

There will be lots of family fun to take in.  Visitors can explore the Edwardian Gardens on a horse-drawn wagon, enjoy warm cider and goodies, decorate gingerbread cookies, have a Christmas family photo taken, take in children’s Christmas stories and tour the Amédée Forget Museum.  There will also be a visitor from the North Pole.

“This event is a great way for people to come together and celebrate during the holiday season,” Minister responsible for the Provincial Capital Commission Mark Docherty said.  “At the same time, it allows us to step back in time and share in customs and traditions that seem so simple and pure in our fast-paced society.”

“We’re excited to be able to offer people a second opportunity to take in the event this year,” Government House Executive Director Carrie Ross said.  “Government House is a magical place this time of year, adorned from top to bottom with holiday décor.  It is wonderful to be able to welcome so many people through our doors to share a bit of our history, traditions and holiday spirit.”

Family photos will be available for download from www.saskatchewan.ca\govthouse after the event.  For more information about the Old-Fashioned Victorian Christmas, call 306-787-9261.
