Death of Inmate at White Birch Remand Centre for Women

Released on August 20, 2015

A female remand inmate died at White Birch Remand Centre for women this morning in Regina.  Foul play is not suspected at this time.

The Ministry’s thoughts and prayers are with this woman’s family and friends at this difficult time.

The police are investigating this matter and the ministry will conduct an internal investigation.  The death will be referred to the Provincial Coroner’s office for their review as well.

Drew Wilby, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs for the Ministry of Justice will be available to the media out front 1874 Scarth Street, Regina at 11:30 am, August 20, 2015.
