Premier Wall Pledges $250,000 to Nepal Relief Effort

Released on April 27, 2015

Premier Brad Wall, on behalf of the people of Saskatchewan, announced today that the province will provide $250,000 to the Canadian Red Cross for disaster relief in Nepal in the wake of a devastating earthquake over the weekend.

“We are thinking about the people of Nepal as they deal with this terrible catastrophe,” Wall said.  “The donation represents the goodwill of the people of Saskatchewan who understand how important it is to lend a helping hand when people are in distress.”

On Saturday, Nepal experienced a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that shook large sections of the country including its capital, Kathmandu.  It is estimated that at least 3,000 people have been killed and thousands are homeless.

“I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the people of Nepal and offer some measure of hope as relatives wait to find out what has happened to family members and friends,” Wall said.

Since 2010, the province has contributed more than $1 million in disaster aid relief to the Red Cross around the world including aid to Japan, the Philippines, Pakistan, Africa and Haiti.
