Province Supports Saskatoon Programs for Victims of Interpersonal Violence

Released on April 17, 2015

The Government of Saskatchewan is investing $2.6 million to support Saskatoon programs that assist victims of interpersonal violence and abuse.

“The work these organizations do to help Saskatoon citizens in their time of crisis is truly remarkable,” Saskatoon Meewasin MLA Roger Parent said on behalf of Justice Minister and Attorney General Gordon Wyant.  “I’m proud that we’re able to provide them with the means to continue offering that support in this city.”

The funding will support the following organizations:
  • Family Service Saskatoon;
  • Saskatoon Interval House;
  • YWCA of Saskatoon; and
  • Saskatoon Sexual Assault and Information Centre.
“Given the complexity of interpersonal violence and abuse, there are a number of challenges to responding in a way that can address this problem effectively,” Family Service Saskatoon Executive Director Dr. Karen Wood said.  “The funding we receive through the Ministry of Justice goes a long way in achieving this.”

“With the financial support of the Provincial Government we continue to offer the resources needed to empower women and their children to lead independent lives free from violence and abuse,” Saskatoon Interval House Executive Director Tanya Wiggins said.

Province-wide, the Ministry of Justice's Interpersonal Violence and Abuse Program is providing more than $11 million toward interpersonal violence programming this fiscal year.
