Grand Opening of Regina’s Seven Stones Community School Celebrated

Released on September 16, 2014

Today Education Minister Don Morgan joined students, teachers, members of the community and representatives from Regina Public Schools to officially commemorate the opening of the new $21.2 million Seven Stones Community School. The Government of Saskatchewan has committed more than $13 million toward this facility.

“Investing in Seven Stones Community School is all about putting the student first and building a brighter future for these youth and the neighbourhood,” Morgan said.  “Many people deserve credit for dedicating their time and energy to help create a school that gives students access to a modern, safe and state-of-the-art learning environment that will encourage their passion for learning.”

The design will accommodate up to 375 students ranging from pre-kindergarten to Grade 8 from both the former Herchmer and Wascana communities.  The school facilitates new approaches in teaching and learning and includes an integrated educational learning centre which has been designed to help special needs students develop more fluidly with the rest of the student population.  This new school features natural light and innovative, flexible learning spaces, as well as 51 childcare spaces to support the growth of the community.

“Our newest school represents our commitment to the North Central community, and to all of Regina public school students and families, to create learning environments that are culturally, environmentally and fiscally responsible,” Regina Board of Education Chairperson Katherine Gagne said.  “Seven Stones Community School’s innovative design further complements our staff’s ongoing work to offer students personalized, responsive learning opportunities that will give them the skills required to succeed in life.”

Since November 2007, the Government of Saskatchewan has committed approximately $700 million toward 47 major school capital projects and numerous smaller projects such as portable classrooms and preventative maintenance and renewal.
