Anderson Rental and Paving Ltd. Fined $51,800 for 2011 Workplace Fatality

On October 24, 2014, Anderson Rental and Paving Ltd. of Saskatoon pleaded guilty in North Battleford Provincial Court to one count under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) legislation.  The court imposed a fine of $37,000 with a $14,800 surcharge.

Charges were laid after a worker fatality at an asphalt plant near Glaslyn on October 5, 2011.  The employer pleaded guilty to one charge under The Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 for the failure to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of a worker at work resulting in his death (clause 3(a) of the regulations).  Eight other charges were withdrawn.

There has been more than $500,000 collected in court fines as a result of OHS convictions since April 1, 2014.

The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety is committed to ensuring the health and safety of Saskatchewan workers.  The ministry ensures compliance with occupational health and safety standards through focused intervention with employers who have high injury rates, enforcement tools and where appropriate, prosecutions.
