Weekly Provincial Highway Construction Update

The government reminds motorists to be on the lookout for more than 20 major highway construction projects underway across the province this week.

“We have several major, multi-million dollar projects in progress including highway upgrades, repaving, passing lanes, and bridge and culvert work – and it’s still early in the season,” Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris said.  “Remember to always slow to 60 km/hr when you encounter highway work zones this season.  The law is there to ensure this important work is done as safely as possible for both workers and motorists.”

Among the projects underway this week are repaving on Highway 39 between Estevan and Macoun, repairs to Highway 1 east of Moose Jaw, continued work on passing lanes on Highway 10 between Balgonie and Fort Qu’Appelle, the construction of a primary-weight supergrid on Highway 361 in southeast Saskatchewan, and major upgrades to Highway 48 near Kipling and Highway 51 west of Major.

Simplified signage, introduced last year, will direct drivers exactly when to slow to 60 km/hr.  Drivers face three times the normal fines for speeding and heavier enforcement in work zones.  This includes the continued deployment of photo enforcement in work zones this season. 

The weekly construction update provides Saskatchewan residents with the latest details on projects underway to help plan safe and efficient travel throughout the summer and fall.
