Saskatoon Company Fined More Than $30,000 for Worker Injury

Released on May 7, 2014

T & L Den Brok Enterprises Inc. of Saskatoon pleaded guilty to one count under occupational health and safety legislation and was fined $30,800 in Yorkton Provincial Court on April 29, 2014.

The company pleaded guilty to:
  • contravening section 3 of the Act (failure to ensure, insofar as was reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of their worker and did thereby cause a serious injury to a worker) and was fined $22,000 with a $8,800 surcharge.
The company was charged after an employee was seriously injured at a workplace in Yorkton on April 7, 2012.  A tractor fell on a worker after a jack failed during a tire change.  Three additional charges against the company were stayed.

The Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety recommends prosecutions where individuals or companies refuse to comply with the provisions of legislation or where significant risk of injury to workers is present as a result of noncompliance.
