Government of Saskatchewan Proclaims Engineering and Geoscience Week

Released on March 3, 2014

March 2-8, 2014, has been proclaimed Engineering and Geoscience Week by Highways and Infrastructure Minister Don McMorris.  The week recognizes the important role members of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS) play in the lives of Saskatchewan residents.

“Having one of the hottest economies in Canada, more people living here, and record investments in infrastructure means engineers and geoscientists have a more important role to play in the province than ever,” McMorris said.  “The members of this profession are doing everything from designing new bridges to overseeing a multitude of important construction projects.  They are making an important contribution to the realization of the Saskatchewan Plan for Growth.”

The work of APEGS members touches almost every sector in Saskatchewan including agriculture, forestry, environment, construction, manufacturing, transportation, resources, utilities, mining, water, health care and education.

“APEGS is proud to have Engineering and Geoscience Week proclaimed in Saskatchewan which recognizes the important work that professional engineers and geoscientists carry out in our growing Saskatchewan economy,” APEGS president Dwayne Gelowitz said.  “Our more than 10,000 members are dedicated to the highest standards of practice to ensure the safety of the public.”

APEGS is the governing body responsible for the regulation of the practice of professional engineers and geoscientists in the province.  Numerous activities have been planned for Engineering and Geoscience Week to help commemorate the profession, including a media campaign featuring TV commercials and newspaper inserts.
